ADA Store Fix

Named in an ADA website lawsuit? We fix the Shopify theme code it points to.

We scan your theme for free first. Then you get a quote with your delivery date.

  • Not a law firm. We fix code.
  • Your live store keeps selling.
  • $1,250 fixed for standard themes.

What the complaint says, and what we change

Every allegation is matched to the part of your store it describes. Your lawyer gets the same mapping, with the technical detail, in a report for the file.

Most fixes happen behind the scenes, in how the page works for keyboard and screen reader users. Anything you can see, such as a focus outline, is listed in the report, and you preview the copy before anything goes live.

Three sample allegations, and the change made for each
What the complaint says What we changed

¶ 14 · Slide-out cart

Plaintiff could not close the slide-out cart or reach checkout using only the keyboard.

Fixed

The cart is now a real dialog with a name. Focus moves in, Tab stays inside, Escape closes it, and focus returns to the cart button.

File snippets/cart-drawer.liquid. Re-test: axe-core clean; keyboard and screen reader checked.

¶ 15 · Size and color options

On product pages, the size and color options had no labels, so Plaintiff could not tell which one was selected.

Fixed

Each set of options now has a group name and a label per choice, and the selected one is announced.

File snippets/product-variant-picker.liquid. Re-test: axe-core clean; keyboard and screen reader checked.

¶ 16 · Sale prices

For discounted items, the sale price and the regular price were read as one unlabeled number.

Fixed

Each price now has its own label, regular price and then sale price, so they are read as two numbers.

File snippets/price.liquid. Re-test: axe-core clean; keyboard and screen reader checked.

A sample. Fictional parties and store. The wording is representative of common complaint patterns, not a quote from a filed case.

What it looks like, and what your lawyer receives

The first allegation above is about the slide-out cart. Here is that cart on a fictional demo store, before and after the fix. Below it are a short keyboard recording and a page of the report your lawyer gets.

The cart drawer of a fictional demo store, before and after the fix

Before

Fictional store, broken on purpose
The cart drawer of a fictional demo store, open. No keyboard focus ring is visible anywhere on the page.
  • Keyboard focus is on the Home link in the footer, behind the cart. Nothing on screen shows it.
  • The cart has no name and no role, so a screen reader does not announce it.
  • The close control is not a real button, so the keyboard cannot reach it. Escape does nothing.

After the fix

Same fictional storeFixed
The same fictional demo store after the fix. A blue ring shows keyboard focus on the Close cart button of the open cart.
  • Enter moves focus into the cart. Tab lands on Close cart, and a ring shows where focus is.
  • The cart is a dialog named “Your cart”, so a screen reader announces it.
  • Escape closes the cart and focus goes back to Add to cart.
Fictional demo store, built for this page. The “before” version is broken on purpose to show the kind of problem a complaint describes. It is not a copy of any real store or theme. Both pictures show the same two key presses: Enter on Add to cart, then Tab.

Check out by keyboard

A 28 second recording of the fixed demo store, used with the Tab, Enter, arrow and Escape keys only. Click to play. It has captions and no sound.

Fictional demo store, after the fix, used with the keyboard only and no mouse. 28 seconds, no sound, captions on. Checkout in a real Shopify store is hosted by Shopify, outside the theme, so it is outside our work.

  2. 0:02Tab moves through the page. A ring shows where you are.
  3. 0:05The arrow keys choose a glaze. The choice is marked and named.
  4. 0:07Tab reaches Add to cart.
  5. 0:09Enter adds the mug and opens the cart. Focus moves into the cart, which is named Your cart.
  6. 0:12Tab reaches Close cart.
  7. 0:13Escape closes the cart. Focus goes back to Add to cart.
  8. 0:16Enter adds a second mug and opens the cart again.

The report your lawyer receives

Each allegation is matched to the file we changed and the test result, and the limits are stated plainly. This is a real page of our sample report. The case and the store in it are invented.

Who is behind ADA Store Fix

Built around the complaint

Every fix starts from the complaint itself: each allegation is read, then matched to the part of your store it describes.

Carried out by engineers

Experienced engineers carry out and test every fix on a copy of your theme, so your live store is never touched.

Not a law firm

We give no legal advice. We are not connected to any plaintiff or plaintiff’s law firm, and we do not act for anyone on the other side of your case.

We ask for Shopify collaborator access limited to the Themes permission. We never need your password.

Questions store owners ask

To start, send the complaint, or just your store address. That is all we need for the free scan. To work on a copy of your theme, we request Shopify collaborator access limited to the Themes permission (plus Pages, only if you ask us to set up your accessibility statement page). We never need your password, and we never request or receive access to your orders, customer list, payouts or financial settings.

No. We work on an unpublished duplicate of your theme. Nothing changes on your live store until you preview the copy and publish it yourself.

Usually 5 business days from payment and theme collaborator access. Every quote states an estimated delivery date. The clock pauses for client or vendor delays. A rush option adds $2,000 to the fix ($3,250 in total) and delivers within 2 business days for standard themes, subject to availability and confirmed on the quote.

We cannot promise that, and no one honestly can. We fix the theme code cited in your complaint and document what we changed and tested. What that means for your case is a decision for you and your lawyer.

Yes, at your direction. We are an engineering service, not a law firm, and we do not give legal advice. Your lawyer gets a plain mapping report. When the fixed theme goes live is a decision for you and your lawyer, and we never publish to your live store.

We are not connected to any plaintiff or plaintiff’s law firm, and we do not act for anyone on the other side of your case.

No one can promise protection from a claim, and we do not. Our report documents the state of your theme on the test date, and monitoring keeps that record current. Later edits and new apps can introduce new barriers.

We fix what lives in your theme code. Third-party app output and Shopify-hosted checkout are outside our scope and our refund. If an allegation points at a third-party app widget (a reviews carousel, a popup, a subscription box), the report names the app where we can identify it, records what we could isolate or switch off in the copy of the theme to confirm the source, and keeps those items apart from the theme-code fixes, so it is clear which parts belong to the vendor. We recommend a ticket to the vendor and, where possible, reduce the impact with CSS or ARIA overrides in your theme.
