ADA Store Fix

Got a demand letter, or worried about one? Get a free scan of your Shopify theme.

This is not an automated score. We run an automated check, try your menu, product options and cart by keyboard, and write back in plain words: what we found, what a fix would cost and what it would not cover.

Reply within 1 business day. No sales call.

  • Not connected to any plaintiff.
  • Not a law firm. We fix code.
  • Your live store keeps selling.
  • $1,250 fixed for standard themes.

Private by default.

Your store address and what we find stay private. We use them only to respond to you, we never publish them, and we share them with your lawyer only if you ask. The scan reads your public storefront and changes nothing, so it needs no access to your store.

A demand letter is a legal matter. Talk to a lawyer about the letter itself. We only handle the technical side, the theme code.

What you get within 1 business day.

To start, send the complaint, or just your store address. That is all we need for the free scan.

  • Which problems sit in your theme code, and which belong to apps or to Shopify.
  • Whether your theme is standard (fixed price) or complex (custom quote).
  • The fixed price and an estimated delivery date, if you decide to go ahead.
  • What a fix would not cover, stated plainly.

What the scan looks at

Automated theme code check (axe-core)

A testing program reads your main shopping pages and flags the barriers it can detect, such as missing labels, low contrast and broken page structure. It finds many problems but not all, so it is the first step, not the whole answer.

Keyboard walk-through of your menu, product options and cart

We also try your menu, product options and slide-out cart using only the keyboard, the way shoppers who cannot use a mouse do, and note where someone would get stuck.

What a keyboard walk-through finds

This is a slide-out cart on a fictional demo store that we built broken on purpose, and the same cart after a fix. The scan tells you which of these problems your own cart has.

The cart drawer of a fictional demo store, before and after the fix

Before

Fictional store, broken on purpose
The cart drawer of a fictional demo store, open. No keyboard focus ring is visible anywhere on the page.
  • Keyboard focus is on the Home link in the footer, behind the cart. Nothing on screen shows it.
  • The cart has no name and no role, so a screen reader does not announce it.
  • The close control is not a real button, so the keyboard cannot reach it. Escape does nothing.

After the fix

Same fictional storeFixed
The same fictional demo store after the fix. A blue ring shows keyboard focus on the Close cart button of the open cart.
  • Enter moves focus into the cart. Tab lands on Close cart, and a ring shows where focus is.
  • The cart is a dialog named “Your cart”, so a screen reader announces it.
  • Escape closes the cart and focus goes back to Add to cart.
Fictional demo store, built for this page. The “before” version is broken on purpose to show the kind of problem a complaint describes. It is not a copy of any real store or theme. Both pictures show the same two key presses: Enter on Add to cart, then Tab.

An overlay widget does not fix the template underneath.

Overlay widgets run on top of your page. They do not fix the page templates (Liquid), slide-out carts or popups underneath, and plaintiffs test your real pages with real screen readers. Stores running widgets are still named in lawsuits.

What it does
Automated overlay widgetsLoads a script that tries to adjust your pages in the visitor’s browser.
ADA Store FixEdits the code of your theme itself (Liquid, HTML, CSS and ARIA).
Touches your templates?
Automated overlay widgetsNo. The broken template underneath stays as it is.
ADA Store FixYes. Fixes are made in a copy of your theme, then published.

Source for the lawsuit point: TestParty (a vendor in this space) reports that more than 1,000 businesses with overlay widgets installed were named in digital accessibility lawsuits in 2024, based on its analysis of court records. We have not independently verified the figure. Read the TestParty analysis.

Monitoring keeps the record current.

New apps and theme edits can bring barriers back. Monitoring runs a monthly scan and fixes regressions, so your record stays current.

Fix first, or just monitor

If your scan finds theme-code barriers, the standard fix is $1,250 fixed, usually 5 business days, with an estimated delivery date on your quote. Monitoring is optional and can be added after the fix.

Measured on stores we run ourselves.

We never name or show a client’s store. These are our own stores, with names withheld. Client results will be added the same way: no name and no web address.

Store A: lifestyle apparel and merch store

Our own store. Name withheld.

Before
12
critical or serious issues on the home page (39 automated issues in total). Lighthouse accessibility score: 87.
After
0
critical or serious issues from theme code across the home, collection, product, cart, statement and search pages.

Tested on the unpublished copy of the theme, October 2026.

Store B: consumer drinks brand store

Our own store. Name withheld.

Before
0
critical or serious issues. Already clean, with a Lighthouse accessibility score of 100.
After
0
One landmark issue fixed, an accessibility statement page added, and the score still 100 after publishing.

A verification pass, not a rescue. Checked again on the live store after publishing, October 2026.

Measured by us with axe-core and Lighthouse, not by a third party. These are automated results on our own stores. They are not client engagements and not a statement of legal compliance.

Questions owners ask

To start, send the complaint, or just your store address. That is all we need for the free scan. To work on a copy of your theme, we request Shopify collaborator access limited to the Themes permission (plus Pages, only if you ask us to set up your accessibility statement page). We never need your password, and we never request or receive access to your orders, customer list, payouts or financial settings.

No. We work on an unpublished duplicate of your theme. Nothing changes on your live store until you preview the copy and publish it yourself.

Usually 5 business days from payment and theme collaborator access. Every quote states an estimated delivery date. The clock pauses for client or vendor delays. A rush option adds $2,000 to the fix ($3,250 in total) and delivers within 2 business days for standard themes, subject to availability and confirmed on the quote.

We are not connected to any plaintiff or plaintiff’s law firm, and we do not act for anyone on the other side of your case.

We fix what lives in your theme code. Third-party app output and Shopify-hosted checkout are outside our scope and our refund. If an allegation points at a third-party app widget (a reviews carousel, a popup, a subscription box), the report names the app where we can identify it, records what we could isolate or switch off in the copy of the theme to confirm the source, and keeps those items apart from the theme-code fixes, so it is clear which parts belong to the vendor. We recommend a ticket to the vendor and, where possible, reduce the impact with CSS or ARIA overrides in your theme.
